By 2015,Karnataka aims to achieve 100% literacy. Under Sakshar Bharath Mission, Karnataka should increase the literacy level to 85% by 2012, and to 100% by 2015.The scheme also aims at making girl children persue higher education.
As per the 2001 census data, Karnataka’s literacy level is 66.6% with male literacy at 76.1% and female literacy at 59.1%. To speed up the work, officials have to focus on districts which have below average literacy rates.
