In the next four years, the primary & secondary schools in Karnataka will get revised text books, where the attempts will be made to cover other aspects apart from academics.
Text books will be revised based on the National curriculum Frame work (NCF) 2005, from the present academic year & will be done in phased manner. For classes 1,3&5, text books will be revised in 2010-12.For classes 2,4,6&8 text books will be revised in 2013-14.
The aim of revising syllabus is to develop common ability of children. The training will be given to teachers afterwards. There is an option that retired & senior teachers & parents along with students should be invited for the discussion. These are the ones who interact with children most of the time. Even mothers should be able to highlight more issues.
A senior teacher is of the opinion that text books are not in touch with social realities of the country. They don’t touch Indian’s poor population. There is no emphasis on Indian values, no mention of terrorism or farmer suicides.
We have to make the students more conscious of problems facing the country today and in future. There is a lot of disconnect between reality & text books .
So the revised syllabus should in such a way that it should boost the self confidence of the students with holistic approach.
